Dr. Joan DeVee Dixon
Joan DeVee Dixon made her professional debut with the Minnesota Orchestra at the invitation of Sir Neville Marriner. Since that time, she has conducted extensive concert tours of the USA, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Israel, Palestine, Japan and the Czech Republic. She now performs for music festivals, schools, and churches around the world, and her recordings are popular on broadcasts such as Pipedreams.

Her recent performance schedule has included The Kennedy Center, Strathmore, and Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC; Wannamaker Grand Court Organ in Philadelphia; Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral and the Temple Church in London; Town Hall and Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford, England; American Cathedral in Paris, France; St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice, Italy; St. Andrew's Cathedral in Tokyo, Japan; Bethlehem Peace Center in Palestine; Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis; Ordway Music Theatre in St. Paul; Dame Myra Hess Series in Chicago; and the World Congress Center in Atlanta. She is also a featured soloist for the International Dvorak Society's "American Spring," and tours extensively throughout the Czech Republic each year.

Dr. Dixon is a First Prize and Grand Award Winner of the WAMSO competition (Minnesota Orchestra Volunteer Association) and a five-time recipient of the prestigious Individual Artist Award from the Maryland State Arts Council. She is the author of the Bio-Bibliography of American composer George Rochberg, and has collaborated with Dr. Emma Lou Diemer in dozens of commissions, recordings and over 100 world premiere performances.

Six of Dr. Dixon's eleven CDs feature the pipe organ, Psalms: The Lord's My Shepherd, Psalms II: I Lift My Eyes to the Hills, three volumes of the Psalms of Emma Lou Diemer, and a collection of encores, Raise the Roof! Her five piano CDs include, Something Old, Something New, the fourth volume of the Psalms of Emma Lou Diemer, and sacred favorites in Jubilee, Spirituals and Christmas.

Dr. Dixon has performed and recorded with numerous ensembles including the Chamberlain Trio, Emmanuel Brass, Laurel Trio, Laurel Brass, and several orchestras. Along with organist, Jane Horn of St. Michael's, Bloomington, Minnesota, Dr. Dixon annually presents a spectacular July 4th program known as, "Organ for Eight!" (four hands + four feet).

Joan DeVee Dixon is Professor and Chair of Friends of Music at Frostburg State University in Maryland. She is also frequently Organist-in-residence for the Czech Heritage Partnership and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, Iowa, and St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Minnesota. Dr. Dixon is a graduate of Drake University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she studied with Joan Smalley, George Katz, Nelita True, Robert Smith, and David Herman. She has twenty years church experience as a music director and associate minister, and has served as a Volunteer in Missions to Japan, Israel/Palestine, and with the Red Cross following Katrina. Dr. Dixon is a member of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI).
